Re: Fandom-specific peeves

In my Harry Potter fandom days, I used to hate Actually a Pureblood!Hermione, MWPP fic without Peter Pettigrew, and authors who made excuses for the way Snape always treated Neville Longbottom.

Also, Hufflepuff!Fudge. I mean, I can see Fudge as a certain kind of Hufflepuff--the backbench politician who pays his dues, loyally supports the right people, does all the dirty work without complaint, and is content to stay in the background until the moment comes to claim his reward. But that wasn't their reasoning for putting him in Hufflepuff.

Haha, I preferred MWPP fic without Peter Pettigrew.

I can see Fudge as a "Hufflepuff gone wrong" too, same with how I see Percy as a "Gryffindor gone wrong" - technically there's nothing uncharacteristic of those Houses in them, they just manifest in bad ways. But having Fudge be a Hufflepuff because "lol Hufflepuffs are losers" is irksome.

I never got fics that ignored Peter. Beyond the fact that they didn't know how he'd turn out, isn't he kind of essential to their whole story?

MWPP fic without Peter is one of the very few things that still gets me pissed off at Harry Potter fandom (the vast majority of HP fandom has long ago hit some kind of critical mass where my brain stopped responding to the sheer volume of wankbait and I passed into that much-longed-for genial zen state of IDGAF bliss).

What is MWPP? Marauders....Something Something Something, clearly, but I've no idea what it could be. >_>

This is just a guess, but I think it means Marauders Without Peter Pettigrew.

That was my first guess, but it doesn't really make sense, then, to say 'MWPP without Peter Pettigrew'.

Googled it. Apparently it means Moody, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs.

Well, that makes perfect sense. Excuse me while I facepalm about not figuring it out.

I'm right there with you with the facepalming. Though in my defense I've not read Harry Potter in years and I've never been part of the fandom. Still feel like a dunce though.
