I had one of my dad's friends try to push himself on me once I was legal, and there wasn't anything romantic between us until that point. Should I have not been totally creeped out by that? Should I have assumed that he all of a sudden found me attractive without any intent before my eighteenth birthday?

I'm really sorry that happened to you, and I hope your dad kicked that creep to the curb. No one just drops their established platonic relationships with people they knew as children just because they become sexually mature. You have to assume that they were hanging around and waiting when that stuff happens.

I think that people who say it's okay don't really understand how relationships in general work. Yeah, people are generally sexually attracted to sexually mature people, but people don't really tend to think of others whom they have familial relationships as "available" in that way.

And no, folks, "familial" is not just restricted to people who share your blood. Adoption exists. Friendzoning exists. False kinship exists.
