Thank you. I would never have even thought of writing original fiction all on my own! Now that I know, I will do it right away and stop writing fanfiction. After all, I was only writing it because you hadn't come into my life yet, and it had never occurred to me that I could write anything else.

I mean, it's not like I actually enjoy writing fanfiction for established canons, and it's certainly not like I enjoy being able to reach an interested, eager audience immediately without the frustration and hassle of publishing and marketing. Right? That would just be silly!

Right? And it's certainly not that it really IS that easy to just get published and get paid? I mean, that's why all writers are millionaires, right? "Starving artist"? Who ever heard of such a thing?

I'll just go out and get published right now! Maybe win the lottery while I'm at it!

Silly anon, don't you know that talented people aren't allowed to make a fun hobby out of their talent? Get your nose to a grindstone, asap!

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I'm talented in many things but I keep them as a hobby because it keeps it fun. There's no way I want them to be associated with a job or stress of deadlines, requirements and PR and whatnot.

But I actually thought about those people who THINK they are good enough writers and publish crap and get paid for it even then. Writers can't really judge for themselves until they get something published and see how badly their book is doing. But even that doesn't tell if it's good writing (Ehem, 50 shades and Twilight imo) lmao makes me want to write a troll book of ridiculous just to see how many people would buy it. And I didn't take this secret seriously but it made me think about what actually happens in the writer world.

I love you.
