The closest I've come to being around a corpse was doing desk work in the evidence department the night they brought in the bloodied clothes off a body they estimated had been sitting for three days or so before someone found it. Even though there were puddles of blood at the bottom of the drying booth, the blood smell was bareley noticeable under the decay. The nearest comparison I could make was that it reminded me of the smell of the rhino enclosure at the zoo, only more pervasive and with a heavy, slightly sweet note.
