Give me your good news

(Anonymous) 2013-11-24 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
So I have been trying to lose weight for months. I lost 10 pounds and then stopped. Working out more and eating healthier was not helping. I eventually stopped weighing myself because it was just depressing. A month ago I got a new job that requires a lot of heavy lifting and standing. My sister told me I looked like I had lost weight but I was like "whatever". Weighed myself today, I have lost 20 more pounds!!!!

That is my good news, give me yours!

Congrats!

I don't really have any good news because nothing interesting happens to me.

My mom is coming to visit for Thanksgiving and hopefully that'll be fun.

I've been waiting to find out which house we're going to for Thanksgiving and I just heard that it's going to be my aunt's house with the two sweetest dogs ever. I love seeing them.

I found some jewelry that I thought I left in California, and a pair of socks that I thought I'd lost when we moved.

Also, I apparently still really like Soul Eater! Which proves that my inability to get in to stuff lately isn't me turning in to a boring obsession-proof grownup! It really is just me being "meh" about a lot of recent stuff!

I finally found my deodorant brand! I'm rather sensitive and it took forever to find this one brand, and then suddenly all the stores stopped carrying it! They had the brand, but now only carried the antiperspirant/deodorant combo, which is no good for me. But today I found it and bought three sticks. Yay!

Congrats on the weightloss!

I got a new job that is closer to home and pays more, so that's exciting!

Congrats! :)

Well, I'm about to watch a thing that has the ghost of Sherlock Holmes in the body of a creepy guy psychoanalysing Conan Doyle and Dr. Joseph Bell with a curly chestnut beard. Also, it is essentially a fannish historical background-heavy theory as to why Conan Doyle killed Holmes off. It's more like "mad news", but whatever.

5 days until I get to go on Annual Leave! 7 or 8 days until my actual holiday! :D

My SO (who I have posted a couple times about here) and I had some tough conversations over the weekend, and it looks like SO is going to be moving back with her parents. Planning it as a temporary measure in hopes that she'll get her head on straight when she's around people who can provide her with more supervision and employment networking and psychiatric care, and if she makes progress then we'll reassess, because we agree that right now we are really, really not good for each other, but we were good for each other in the past, and if possible, would like to see if we could get back to that point.

It is sort of mixed news rather than straight-up good news (without her parents sending her money every month to continue to live here, I have to pay for the house and all the bills myself for awhile), but at least we both get a break from the frustration we've been causing each other due to our respective issues, and we HAD the difficult conversation to make it happen.

I think I posted a comment about this when it happened, but I got a new laptop this week and it's a HUGE improvement over the old, slow, literally held together with duct tape machine I had been using. I was just initially a little worried that Win8 was really going to suck as much as people have suggested it does, and it would be a pain to use...

As it turns out, nope - Win8 does pretty much suck, but if you learn to get to the Desktop view, it sucks less. That got me through until I could make enough progress with it to upgrade to 8.1, which clarifies a lot of the confusion caused by the main Win8 Start page, and now my new laptop is all loaded with the software I need to do my job and my hobbies, all easily accessible. :D Have since been instructing friends online how to make their coworkers' Win8 machines suck less.

tl;dr: New laptop, and I learned how to minimize the suckiness of Win8!

Good going OP! I'm glad your job was able to help you lose weight. (Maybe it'll be easier for now on?)

I've been trying to lose weight myself. Not sure how much I've lost (for the first month or so I didn't weight at all; stupid, I know) but it's at least 15 pounds. My clothes are a bit loose and I have more energy so I'm pretty pleased. (Even if, like you from before, I think I've hit a bit of a plateau.)

Congrats!

I found out today that my car is pretty much un-fixable (or rather, it's not worth fixing) BUT my dad and I swung by a used-car lot and found something comparable for less than what the repairs on mine would cost.
