I'm not in that fandom but I know that the actor has said that he thinks Hannibal is able to genuinely care for people, he just mechanically keeps his emotions in check, and that that makes him all the more horrible. Which sounds interesting to me because I like some actual acknowledgment that having emotions hardly goes hand in hand with being virtuous.
