It's not like that at all. Hannibal sees Will as someone he can have an actual human connection with. He believes that he's helping Will become truer to himself. It's not just a toy that he can dispose of and replace.

Uh....no. Hannibal might care for Will in his own fucked up way, but he'd happily make some Will-burgers if he suddenly got a craving for them. Will is an amusement to Hannibal. He sees potential in Will, but he certainly doesn't have Will's best interests at heart. Or even his worst interests, for that matter.
