Re: Dragon Age 2

i actually like dragon age 2 a lot more than dragon age origins/awakening. the gameplay was better in my opinion, i'm not sure who all has said that the controls are wonky and the fighting mechanics were rubbish but i thought they were much MUCH smoother in da2. iirc i think some of the controls were changed from origins but you can key them in however you want, which is what i did.

the controls are otherwise the same between the games. you hotkey abilities just like in origins. i think the fighting animations are hella better in 2 personally.

the dialogue wheel is also a big step up from the visually jarring list of dialogue choices we'd get in origins. it makes it clearer which options are stemming from which disposition. idk i played mass effect before i played dragon age so i was used to the dialogue wheel already, so maybe it's just me.

and yeah the characters are awesome. they all have really interesting stories and over time you will probably come to love them all as family.

the only thing i thought was kind of a step back was the inability to customise hawke to the degree that you could customise the warden, but that makes sense from a story standpoint. i still think they could have worked around the discrepancies to make different races available but it's not a huge deal for me. just be prepared to play as a human if you buy it, which i definitely recommend.

regarding the anders thing, i won't say much so as to avoid spoiling you, but a lot of people were disappointed with where they went with his character. he ends up being one of those people that fandom either LOVES to death and woobifies and justifies everything he does and says, or completely hates to the bone. if you look at it objectively though, it's easier to understand anders' - and his writers' - decisions. i have lots of anders feelings, most of them not flattering, but i promise his behaviour plays a vital part in the story and it will make sense if you play. i think a lot of people didn't really get that or didn't think it was necessary/beneficial to the story, but it's up to you to decide if you agree with them.

so overall i definitely recommend buying it, it's hells of fun and you will fall in love with all the companions and it's basically taken over my life

(also if you buy it please be kind to fenris he deserves all your love)
