Hunger Games: Catching Fire
(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 12:22 am (UTC)(link)for me my liking of the trilogy is a downward spiral as the books get more depressing, so I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. I think the HG movies are some of my fave book adaptations: they bring to life everything I want from the books and add some new materiel (like the stuff from the Capitol PoV) effectively.
also, I am in love with Haymitch and Mags (and Peeta, but that is a debilitating ongoing condition)

As for the book, tbh I've found the love triangle stuff frustrating, but I've never been a fan of those. (I like both Gale and Peeta, though.) The day to day stuff in the district at the start of the book was great, but now that the games have began things have really picked up. Also, I always love the training and capital sections (SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DRESS) so I can't wait to see how those play out on screen. With the exception of Rue, the secondary cast of characters is more interesting this time around.
Glad it surprised you! I've only heard good things so far, which is pleasing.
