Hunger Games: Catching Fire

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
how did you like it?

for me my liking of the trilogy is a downward spiral as the books get more depressing, so I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. I think the HG movies are some of my fave book adaptations: they bring to life everything I want from the books and add some new materiel (like the stuff from the Capitol PoV) effectively.

also, I am in love with Haymitch and Mags (and Peeta, but that is a debilitating ongoing condition)

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm excited! I'm listening to the audiobook now and hopefully I'll see the film sometime this coming week.

As for the book, tbh I've found the love triangle stuff frustrating, but I've never been a fan of those. (I like both Gale and Peeta, though.) The day to day stuff in the district at the start of the book was great, but now that the games have began things have really picked up. Also, I always love the training and capital sections (SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DRESS) so I can't wait to see how those play out on screen. With the exception of Rue, the secondary cast of characters is more interesting this time around.

Glad it surprised you! I've only heard good things so far, which is pleasing.

Saw it earlier this evening, and loved it. The love triangle was played up a bit more than I would have liked, but overall I thought it was fantastic, and I want to marry Johanna.

I only read the first book, so I can't judge from that but I loved the movie. My faves of the new characters were Finnick, Johanna and Mags. I intend to see it again.

I think I'm seeing it this weekend and I can't wait! Catching Fire was my favourite book and Arena. :D

Catching Fire is my favorite book of the three, and I thought the movie portrayed it really well! I didn't have much to complain about besides how they played up the love triangle, which I expected them to do anyway, so I mostly just ignored it. Johanna and Finnick were awesome, and I thought this movie did much better than the last one on showing Peeta's character. :)

I really liked how Sam Clafin portrayed Finnick. He's kind of blandly charming-and-flirty in the book, from what I remember, so it was really nice to see him being played with that edge of "I have been through a lot of fucked-up shit and sometimes my smile is not quite right".
