Re: Dragon Age 2
DA2 surprised me with how much fun it is, so I'm on my second playthrough with a third and forth in the works. But while it has its good points, to me, it's a great deal more shallow than Origins in story, gameplay, and characterization. The maps are ridiculously limited (like you run through the same dungeon literally dozens of times) and the combat is more visually dynamic but very simplified. You don't get to speak to your companions outside of scripted events and your PC's choices have little to no effect over the outcome of the story. Your companions go about their lives and decisions while you sit back and watch them do things that you as the player can't change at all. This especially applies to Anders - as a character he's completely locked up in plot requirements - and can be pretty frustrating.
But by itself, it's a decent game to run through. Just get it on sale for super cheap - the holiday sales are coming up, so I suggest you wait until then. Oh, and the only DLC that's really worth it is Legacy, if you have to choose which one to grab first.
