Not when they are saying they are right and I am wrong. They're the ones so concerned with being fans and "cred." Not me. I just play the damn game. I don't give a rat's ass about gamer cred. If they want to stick with the stuff that the game writers never intended, fine, but they should not go out of their way to say that I'm wrong and put down anyone who games the way I do.

(it's a shitty fandom)

I don't get your point at all. LP watchers see the game exactly the way the person who makes LPs did. So the person who actually played the game doesn't have a bigger knowledge about the canon than the watchers do. If someone argues with you about some piece of information that you've seen in the game while they didn't, it doesn't make any difference whether they've actually played the game themselvesand missed this piece of infortmation, or just watched the LP, whose player missed it.

This is not an LP vs active gamers issue.

Yes, you do miss the point. Entirely.

This isn't even about LPs, this is about forums who use only text and present them as gospel truth when the game creators purposefully left a lot of mysteries. It's supposed to be speculation, and when a gamer finds something in the game says, hey I found this, they shouldn't be disregarding that person as someone who doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. That's my point. They shouldn't deny that I am a fan because I don't play the game or interpret the lore the way they do and yet call themselves true fans.

As for LPs, they can cover only so much. They're really useful for a lot of things, and there's a lot of great ones for this fandom, but there's so many ways to defeat the boss, etc, so forth. If people are fans of that, I don't care. As long as they don't say that I'm not one for playing the game the way they think it should be. Yes, that happens in this fandom. Incredible, but true.

But the discussion IS about LPs. You're the one who started talking about something completely unrelated to the subject and voicing it like it was related somehow.

Except your comment wasn't just about lore or arguing about lore. Your first line came across to me as being offended that people dare call them fans when they aren't Doing It Right by your standards.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant True Fan. The true fan mentality. Sorry. Which is ridiculous when it's used against those who play the game.

That's ridiculous when coming from anyone, including yourself.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-25 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's really ridiculous when you can't even be accepted into a discussion about your favorite game when you play it differently or just view the lore differently when they seek to discredit you in any way.

Yes, it's ridiculous to say, fandom, you're doing it wrong by being dismissive of some people because they are doing things a different way. That's why I am amused by these people. They refuse to hear another version just because someone doesn't play the game or agree with them 100%. It's better to be amused by this, than to be upset.

But thank you for sticking up for the elitists. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

I'm so confused by this whole comment. How am I "sticking up for the elitists"? I can't stand the One True Fan mentality and I think anyone telling someone else how they should or should not enjoy a game is ridiculous.
