Are you forgetting that some canon sources (especially comics or shows) have multiple writers who write them? Therefore, a fic writer's representation of the character is not necessarily OOC just because it's fanfiction. I'd also like to remind you that people write what they want to write. Sometimes that's fanfiction they're never monetarily or socially rewarded to working on.
