Geez, those face lines. He looks prematurely aged.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
He IS aged. Not prematurely.

He's 54, I think he's allowed to look a bit weathered.

Still sexy as fuck, esp with the beard. And I don't usually like beards.

McGann should have been in the special instead of John Hurt.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
agreed! I liked the impact of an old-young Doctor against the young-old Doctors, but still...Eight...;_;

WE COULDA HAD IT AAAAALLLLLL think how beautifully tragic he is ending the world with his soft voice and his 18th century dandy clothes....

Yes. As much as I liked it as-is, I will forever regret just a bit that they didn't go that way.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Not that I didn't enjoy John Hurt's performance... but honestly, seeing McGann!Doctor in the Time War would have been utterly amazing and heartbreaking - Eight gradually warped into the 'War Doctor' by events vs. being made to specifically regenerate into a 'warrior'.

Of course I also think Eccleston should have been in the special. I'm actually a little irritated about that - we could have had five Doctors on screen in that special, and the whole of the plot was right up Nine's alley. He would have had a lot to contribute to the story. (OR AT LEAST GOTTEN A NEW VOICE CLIP FOR HIS 'CAMEO' IN THE 13 DOCTORS SCENE DAMN YOU MOFFAT.)

That was my thought when I first realized they were doing anything with the Time War. I mean, I enjoyed John Hurt's performance enough that I forgot how much I wanted to see McGann in that role for the duration of the special, but still. How amazing would that have been?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
AGREED. Not that John Hurt wasn't good-- he was-- but I don't think of him as the Doctor, and I do recognize Paul McGann as the Doctor. And he would have been so good!

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree completely

I never hated the movie as much as other people did, mostly because he's just so charming. So I was thrilled to see him playing Eight again. And he's an attractive man.
vongroovy: ([doctor who] never forget your first)

[personal profile] vongroovy 2013-11-26 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
This, exactly. There are things that are terrible about that movie, but he is definitely not one of them, and because of that I've always had a soft spot for it. And what a good-looking dude, then and now.

His surprise reappearance onscreen was pretty much the most exciting Who thing ever for me, but a bit bittersweet too. I've always liked not seeing his regeneration. I don't remember who, but someone talked about that, how the lack of ending to his story kind of made him, like, the eternal doctor. Of course, we know at some point he would regenerate, but without knowing the circumstances, it was kind of like he could go on forever. I've always really liked that idea, so I was a bit upset to actually see him go.

Oh god, the movie is absolutely AWFUL, but McGann alone makes it redeemable. I don't think that's an unpopular opinion, really, he's one of my absolute favourites.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so totally in love with him. I kind of feel like in another universe he could could have been my doctor instead of Ten.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Same. He and Capaldi utterly stole the show. (I started with Nine, but really fell in love with the series when Ten arrived - and promptly fell out when Eleven and the Ponds showed up.)

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
he's my Doctor. )

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Plus he starred in the all time best movie of all times this and any other. Time.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-26 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
At first I thought you meant he starred in a movie called Time and that was the best movie ever and was about to get suitably riled, but then I worked it out.

You are right, anon, you are so very right.

Awesome Doctor. Flawless regeneration scene. It left me wanting more McGann. Fortunately Big Finish Audio had a sale on his adventures.

I couldn't help feel there is a kind-of symmetry that the two onscreen appearances of him as the Doctor had his regeneration into this form, and his regeneration out of it.

Gods, it makes you weep for the missed opportunity, doesn't it? He'd've been brilliant.

And, of course, he is, in audio. :D

Read the EDAs!

If Fitz and Eight had of been on TV together, he would have been more popular than Rose and Sarah Jane put together.

I first saw him in Luther & thought he was hot, so I looked him up & discovered he was a Doctor (obviously, I've yet to see Classic Who). I DID see the The Night of the Doctor & mmmm.

One of these days, I'll be able to watch Classic Who. . .
