Your Thanksgiving menu

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Whatcha makin' for Thanksgiving, Americans of f!s? My family will be serving brined turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, homemade rolls, apple pie and pecan pie. Oh and people are bringing some kind of salad + beer and wine.

Massaman chicken curry because I don't want to make turkey for three people and I like curry.

Some kind of apple cranberry crumble thing for dessert.

Wassail

I hope it's not that canned wassail.

I have to work on Thanksgiving -- third year out of the four I've been at this job, and no, I am not in any way an essential service -- so I don't get to eat with my family. Which means they will be eating sadly maimed turkey, because for some reason I'm the only one in my family who can carve a bird properly, and I'm going to buy lamb chops so I can at least treat myself to something a little special.

*roast turkey (I've always wanted to try a brined one though!)
*stuffing in turkey (with mushrooms and sausage) and extra in a casserole dish with vegetarian sausage and veg stock
*garlic-thyme roasted sweet potatoes
*probably some regular baked sweet potatoes with butter
*mashed potatoes
*green beans with walnuts and a dried cherry vinaigrette
*cider-glazed carrots
*cranberry sauce
*cranberry bread! (also for Thanksgiving week breakfast)

*regular pumpkin pie
*sour cream raisin pumpkin pie
*traditional apple pie
*Good Eats apple pie (only one in a homemade crust)

I'm going to a family friend's house and we were told to bring some sort of dessert.

Probably turkey.

I hope there's enough alcohol for me to get decently drunk.

My folks are out of the country and they left me alone. So I promptly made a reservation for a hotel in Savannah. I don't like eating out during the holidays, so I bought a turkey sandwich, Dr. Pepper, Doritos, and cookies. Cheaper than a restaurant and comes without the guilt of making someone else work during the holidays.

I'm baking blackberry pie, pumpkin pie, raspberry cream cheese pie with chocolate crust and glaze, and apple-pear pie with Chinese Five Spice and a cornmeal crumb top. My brother is a chef and is cooking everything else aside from the bread.

I'm doing a friendsgiving thing, and aside from my dishes, all I know is the host house currently has 10 lbs of meat in the fridge.

As the token Jew in the group, I'm celebrating Thanksgivingukkah by making matzoh ball soup and sweet potato and butternut squash latkes.

OMG I totally forgot about Latkes! I'm going to get my mother to add them to our menu this year; she makes latkes like no one else.

Heh, as you can see upthread we have a fuckton of food already (and latkes are time-consuming, so they are best made on a night with leftovers anyway), so we will be having latkes another night, maybe Saturday.

I am an American but I'm living abroad so no Thanksgiving for me...I'll probably just have pizza. There may be a church in the area that will do turkeys, but it doesn't seem like a proper Thanksgiving meal without corn casserole (superior to stuffing!)

Probably just the standard stuff, turkey and potatoes with gravy and cranberry whatever, some kind of salad, and pumpkin pie. Pretty much the only things I would want to eat in there are the cranberry whatever and potatoes without gravy. I may stay home and just eat little debbie snack cakes and candy.

I always do the Cracker Barrel take home meal. (It's a mostly southern based restaurant chain) Then I make mac n cheese, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, & Green bean casserole.

Vegetarian Thanksgiving for me!

(Anonymous) 2013-11-27 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Tofurkey (yes, it is delicious!), vegetarian stuffing, cranberries, pumpkin pie, salad, mashed potatoes...

of course, the extended family is the country conservative anti-vegetarian type (I don't get how you can be anti-vegetarian, but there you have it) and none of their contributions will likely be veggie-friendly, but I come prepared with my own dishes.
