To be fair, the locking mechanism on my car is so quiet that I don't actually hear anything when I click the fob as I'm walking away. Now, because I'm paranoid, I click it again so the car honks and blinks at me, but if somebody ISN'T as paranoid, I can see it maybe not looking like they've locked or unlocked it.

I turned the noise off (little honky thing) on my old car, because i could hear the locks shut just fine, but on tv/in movies, if people *do* lock/unlock, it's always noisy, so it's really noticeable when they just wander away from their car without doing anything that looks remotely like locking it.

I never lock my car at home. Heck, until last year when I got a new car that locks automatically I always used to leave the keys in my unlocked car! Ahh, country living.
