I'm revisiting Watchers at the Pond right now--a nature book I remember being crazy about when I was about 14--and I'm getting unreasonably pissed about little details that are off. American goldfinches are not yellow and black in January, dammit! And warblers do not have dicks!

Heeeee! Not something i'd pick up on, but yes! The eternal red-tailed hawk cry that they substitute for bald eagles also irritates me.

I guess it just goes to show how citified I was when I was fourteen. I had never even seen a hawk, or a warbler, or a goldfinch.
