I'm a little curious as to why you watched it then, since that's pretty much the premise but... shrug.

DA

not OP but I can explain my logic: "A Study in Pink" started out being very faithful to the Canon. Unfortunately, Moffat and Gatiss decided to switch tracks halfway through, and turn it into a slapstick pastiche of the stupidest pastiche that was ever made. Er. IMO. Once they stopped using Canon plots, and started using their own, it was clear that all three of the writers still can't hold a candle to good old ACD.

Ahhh, I can understand that.

OP

I heard it was good, and I decided "okay, I'll watch and maybe after I actually watch it I won't give a shit if it's Victorian or not."

But I watched and no, as turns out, I still do give a shit if it's Victorian or not. I just didn't warm to the modern setting. That ineffable pervasive atmosphere that I love which comes with the Victorian setting was missing, and without it, the show just didn't grab me.

That makes sense.

I wasn't too big on Sherlock Holmes but I watched it because my friends peer pressured me.

I'll probably watch the new episodes, because I got my family hooked on it too, but I don't like the fandom.
