I like Julianne Moore, but for me Jody Foster will always be Clarice Starling.

Absolutely.

OP, where the hell are you hanging out where this has been the case? I mean, for the most part, Hannibal (NBC) fandom doesn't even talk about Clarice (because she'll probably never appear in the show), but when they do, every time I've seen it (in comparative gifsets etc) it's been about Jodie Foster's Clarice. (And people have especially commented on how much Kacey Rohl looks like a young Jodie Foster).

I feel like there's SOME resemblance:

Agreed!

I mean, I guess part of it may be people not wanting to get their hopes up (since we don't know if they'll get the rights to the character.)

But I do wish there was more Clarice in fandom. She's seriously one of my favourite female characters ever.

For me, it's not so much "glossing over Clarice" as "not familiar with Clarice". I've never read the books, and by the time I was "old enough" to see Silence of the Lambs I had pretty much absorbed the entire plot through pop-culture osmosis, so the film itself had almost no impact on me. As a result, I care more about Will because I don't already know how it ends, and it's much more immediate to me that SotL ever was.

i hate all things nbc hannibal like flames on the side of my face and i'm always delighted (no sarcasm) to hear the fandom ignores/glosses over clarice.

I hate how the fandom glosses over/outright ignores Clarice in general so they can focus on Will.

But...Will's the protagonist of the show and Clarice hasn't even shown up yet (and presumably won't show up for a long time). Of course she is going to be glossed over by fans.

Are Jodie Foster's eyes... kinda on uneven level?

Don't watch Hannibal, but Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling is amazing.

...all I had to say.

YES, YES, YES.
A MILLION TIMES, YES.
Ugh. Jodie Foster was the BEST Starling.

this is an unpopular opinion, but i don't think jodie foster embodied clarice. i love her portrayal, but it was nothing like i imagined clarice when reading sotl. which is weird, considering i watched the film before reading the book. i found book canon clarice ballsier and more self-assertive. jodie foster also has a very girl next door kind of beauty, while the way lecter and chilton talk about her in book canon made me think of a more sexually threatening appearance, the sort of looks people automatically think of when they hear the term "ice queen" (i think it was chilton who called her a winter morning kind of woman or w/e).

i know she's most people's ultimate clarice, but she's not mine. which i guess is why i'm more tolerant of moore's portrayal than most starling fans.

I agree.

secrets like this baffle me because the hannibal fandom is one of the most friendly and accepting fandoms i've ever been in. most of the fans seem to love clarice, or at least love silence of the lambs. even the will/hannibal shippers. so where are these so-called clarice haters? o_O

hell, most of the fandom loves alana too...and she was one of will's potential love interest at one point.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There were some where I used to hang out. Mostly shippers who were thrilled that NBC can't get the rights to Clarice because they want Will to have her storyline instead.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I also jump on the "what part of the fandom are you even in?" Cause as a person that is not in the fandom but gets lots of it on his dash, I have yet to see Juliane Moore appear on any Hannibal gifsets, I have only seen love for Jodie Foster.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
MTE. The Hannibal fandom is pretty cool with the canon's female characters in general, including Jodie Foster's Clarice.
