I know you be trollin' but come on, don't pretend people wouldn't be freaking out tens times as hard if regina were a man and the sheriff were a woman. don't even front

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Google Luke spencer, Todd manning, and EJ dimera for me.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
na

last I checked there wasn't a raging tumblr fandom for general hospital but okay

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Why don't you check out the tumblr tags, or go to the forums on twop or soapcentral, or the posts on ontd. Just because you're not involved in the fandom doesn't mean it's not there

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
you realize that those aren't the same people who are denouncing the OUAT character as a rapist, right?

you have one group of people (the soap opera fans) who are accepting of male rapists, and another group of people (the OUAT fans) who are critical of a female rapists. there is nothing hypocritical about the second group of fans, because they aren't doing the first thing. there are no grounds for considering them MRAs; the leap of logic you have to make to do so continues to astonish me.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Except the op was saying fans aren't critical, but would be if Regina was a man.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
so then MRA anon is just totally crazy?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
No, they're trolling.
insanenoodlyguy: (Awesomeface)

No they just want to spread the hate

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-11-30 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
And they do it so well!

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
so the keystone of your critique is 20-year-old soap opera characters were regarded differently at that time than characters on a currently-airing primetime network show?

are you totally blind to the idea of context?

EJ raped Sami in December 2006.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
And there are several of us DAYS fans that still give him shit for that and want him nowhere near Sami (and curse writers six ways to oblivion whenever they pair her up with him again.). Don't lump all soap fans in one group just because some fans seem to give guys like EJ et, al. a pass.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

I've never heard of any of those characters and I have no idea what fandom's reaction is to them or even if those soap operas have much of a fandom presence.

EJ/Sami is a pretty popular pairing despite it starting by him coercing her into having sex with him by threatening the life of her husband.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
If your going to go down this road, get your fucking facts straight. EJ coerced Sami into sex by saying he'd only help her save an injured Lucas (who was injured when he and Sami got into a car wreck during a blizzard) if she'd sleep with him. Still creepy, still awful (and I want Sami nowhere near EJ as a result), but you make it sound like he threatened to basically kill Lucas and that wasn't exactly the exact circumstances.

dafuq

(Anonymous) 2013-11-30 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
There are actually segements of fandom that condemn these men pretty hard and fast. And some wish Todd had served a longer prison term for raping Marty and threatening Nora.

I'm not familiar with EJ, but Luke and Todd have a couple of major differences that set them apart from Regina.

1. Luke and Todd both (eventually) realized that their actions were unforgivable. Regina seems to believe that everything she does is justified.

2. Luke and Todd both sought to make amends for their actions. Regina has never even acknowledged her rape of Graham, much less tried to make amends. Of course, he's dead now. Because she murdered him.

3. Luke and Todd have the meta advantage of being played by very talented actors who can communicate their characters' inner turmoil without a word. Regina is played by Lana Parilla. Granted, she seems like a very nice woman, but…

Besides, does anyone actually think Todd Manning is a good person? I always thought the general consensus among the fans/ characters is that he's a rotten human being, but an interesting one.

I know they're trolling too, but Damon Salvatore did something very similar to the Regina/Graham situation to several women on Vampire Diaries, and nobody really seemed to have any problem with it.

Hence why I stopped watching VD.
