If I remember the books right, even as adults it's like they have no choice once a werewolf imprints on them. That is some bullshit. I've met some people I get along with amazingly and if they randomly told me "we're soulmates, there's LITERALLY no one else in the world, I own you now" FUCK THAT. The lack of choice is creepy as shit at any age and gets into REALLY AWFUL territory when they involve a CHILD.

They do technically have a choice but Meyer assumes that no one would be able to resist someone who is that devoted to them and I suspect that the pack would not be happy if the person one of their members imprinted on turned them down so there is a lot of pressure there too.

And don't forget the case where that happened resulted in face maiming and some sorta stockholm syndrome love afterwards.
