Interesting Internet Addiction Case
Note: I have only been gone for a few days, and most of them could ask me by phone. It was specifically being missing from Facebook that freaked them out, not missing in general. And when I told them about my time crunch, one actually said I should have posted an announcement on Facebook that I was going to be missing for a few days.
Additional note: I don't post much personal stuff on Facebook, mostly memes, infographics, and news articles and such. Additionally, apart from a few select friends who already have my phone number, I don't talk to people much, either. But a few days of no new posts from me...
...I'm starting to see why so many people end up tied to their social networks by the metaphorical umbilical cord. Even if you don't have any particular affinity or connection for the site in question, everyone else panics if you ever leave.
Is this why so many people are on Tumblr 24/7? It confuses me when I see posts like "going to bed now" - I still think of it as a blog, even though I know most people treat it as a social network.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 02:18 am (UTC)(link)I figure the going to bed now posts are for active users letting their friends know they're no longer online to chat with/reblog together.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-01 05:00 am (UTC)(link)I mean WTF? I don't really even notice unless someone I really like is quiet a LOOOOONG time, or I happen to go through my list of followed peeps and it tells me how long it's been. And how does it hurt anything if you're following someone and they're not posting, it's not like they're bothering you in any way!
