What gets me is people who keep track of whether the people they follow are posting and unfollow them if they aren't active for 24 hours or whatever.

I mean WTF? I don't really even notice unless someone I really like is quiet a LOOOOONG time, or I happen to go through my list of followed peeps and it tells me how long it's been. And how does it hurt anything if you're following someone and they're not posting, it's not like they're bothering you in any way!
