There was a time when I used to take a disturbing amount of pleasure in the thought of whacking my mother-in-law upside the head with a cast-iron skillet. I'm not sure whether I'd call it "murderous" precisely, because (although such an act could of course easily lead to her death) it wasn't the prospect of her being dead that appealed to me so much as the visceral sense of catharsis I got from imagining that heavy chunk of metal violently connecting with her skull.

(We don't live in her house anymore, thank God, and I have long since gotten over it.)
