But the season also has baked goods to eat, and sweaters to wear, and alcohol to drink, and Fairytale of New York (the best Christmas song). It's not all bad.

Baked goods make me fat(ter), I can wear sweaters any old time during the winter, I don't drink alcohol, and I'd love to never hear that song again.

So yeah, it is all bad.

I cede my grinch crown gracefully. :)

eta: because you made me realize that as much as I hate Christmas I am under no obligation to celebrate it or even pretend to tolerate it.

I accept your grinch crown.

It's funny, when I was a kid -- 8-12 -- I used to hate Thanksgiving and love Christmas. I hated Thanksgiving because if I wasn't being dragged to my uncle Bill's place (he is the most boring person ever so there was never anything to do) we'd have the whole family at my house and all the kids would get into my stuff and break all my shit because they had no fucking respect for other peoples' property and if they broke their own shit their moms could replace it, mine was hard-earned and irreplaceable. Christmas was the time when we replenished all my fucking broken toys.

Now it's the other way around. I love Thanksgiving -- it's the one time of year I actually don't get ignored by my family (I used to spend time in the basement, and my mom would call me up, but one year she was on crutches and they flat-out refused to send someone else, so I'm like fuck you, you don't want me around I'll be in your fucking faces, KNOBS) and I can eat turkey that doesn't taste like shit. Meanwhile Christmas is fucking horrible for reasons I've detailed above.
starphotographs: I like him. He kind of looks and acts like one of my characters. (I did not know this when I started liking him!) (Victor (...>:|))

Ughhhhh Thanksgiving was always such a disappointment when I was a kid. So much hype about OMG FOOD... And then the day comes and I remember that my mom doesn't season or even salt stuff, and Thanksgiving does not change this. Unseasoned turkey gravy is gross. :<

I really like pumpkin pie and leftover turkey sandwiches, so there was an upside, at least.

I just hate Christmas because it's tacky and garish and loud and everyone is even more dickish (admittedly I work in retail) AND holier-than-thou than usual which is an infuriatingly ironic combination. Plus everyone comes into the organizations I volunteer at year round for their Christmas good deed and then treat me like shit, blatantly ignore our rules and ignore my instructions (leaving me to unfuck their helpfulness when they swan back to ignoring Christ's teachings) because I don't go to church.

I actually enjoy grey rainy days but I'll never like the cold. I was sixteen before I lived or worked in a place with actual heating or had proper winter clothes and just the five minute walk to the bus stop now is too much reminder of those cold, wet, awful months of misery every year.

Now Thanksgiving I like. Usually because I spend it in peace and quiet far away from a city at my Grandfather's weekend home clearing brush, reading on an indoor hammock, and eating marshmallows and mashed potatoes (usually not together). This past one I couldn't make the trip up but I still enjoyed it because I spent the morning picking up trash in nice weather for overtime pay and the evening getting drunk and eating pizza.

Yes. TSO is the other thing I love about the season. Except for their stuff with original lyrics, which are usually cringe-inducing.

TSO is far and away one of the best things about this season.
