The thing is, if they had just went for a straight-up depression story about all the things you mentioned, I would've been much more okay with the whole thing, because (a) depression can happen to anyone, and (b) Buffy's life hasn't been easy. But to make the whole thing hinge on, "I think I was in Heaven" just really put me off -- because the narrative hadn't shown her as having been beaten down by all those other things up until that point, so for Heaven to be the last straw that makes her crumble kind of seemed to trivialize her other problems (and, y'know, completely invalidate the theme that the thing that made her different from other Slayers and the reason she had survived as long as she did was because she had friends and loved ones to support her).

I don't know, I think this is a YMMV issue because I personally thought we were shown signs even back in S5 that she was slowly being beaten down by her problems, all leading up to her sacrifice. It might not have been especially obvious due to the perils of their situation, but it was there. And S6 didn't have the greatest writing to put it mildly, but I think we were supposed to read deeper than the surface reason of, "I was in Heaven," and see what was really eating at her.

Or as far back as season two. She literally runs away from her life because she can't deal with it.

A) She didn't think she was in Heaven, she knew she was in Heaven.

B) She was shown as having been beaten down starting in season 1.

C) You're the one trivializing her problems. They got a lot of things wrong in the last few seasons but they never did that.

WTF what show were you watching, Buffy struggled from DAY ONE. Why is it so wrong for something as HUGE as her finally finding peace and having it violently ripped away being a BREAKING point for her (one that doesn't last btw but is realistically slow to heal)? She has ALWAYS had pain and dealt with it realistically (aka NOT ALWAYS PERFECTLY), why is THIS the one thing you think she ever showed a reaction to? That is bullshit.

And as some one who's had very loving and supporting friends around for years, you do not have to be 100% happy with those friends. Being upset with them or having a rough time with your relationships IS NORMAL. Especially if, again, you finally found peace and they're the ones that took you away from it. They did what they thought was right and she knew that, otherwise she wouldn't have stuck around and forgiven them. You can be angry and upset and hurt by some one and still love and forgive them. She did.

Heaven and her struggle and depression in s6 WAS NOT ONLY ABOUT HEAVEN. It was about EVERYTHING that's happened since she was a Slayer. Stuff she was used to but her time with it all taken away and her being left in peace made it hurt even more. That's not trivialization - if anything it's making all those things hurt even more. Buffy's a Slayer but she's still human. I think s6, while hard to watch (especially if you suffer from depression too and get told ALL THE TIME "just get over it, you have it so good, etc") but it's realistic (same as her friends' struggles to be there for her while she remains depressed and distant)
