Re: Holiday season is upon us
Paradoxically, last year was the first time in 13 years I got to spend Xmas with both my family and my dad under the same roof and I was on the verge of happy tears. But we won't be repeating it this year - he doesn't have the money to travel to Chile this December.
It's hot as the inside of a volcano here, we have Xmas at summer in Chile. So I can't even say "OMG SNOW", heh. I guess the things I'm looking forward this 2013 are making my own Cola de Mono, well-chilled, and having some nice (though not AWESOME) times with my extended family. Oh! And F!S Secret Santa :3
Lynx's Personal Cola de Mono Recipe
THIS IS CRAZY STRONG, though. It's the recipe my dad's side of the family uses, I've just made some tweaks to it. Perfect beverage for the holidays if you don't care about eggnog.
* 1200 cc. of whole milk. (It's important it's whole milk. Skim milk goes sour if alcohol touches it.)
* 400 cc. (one big cup) of aguardiente (I'm told it's "everclear" in the US? Anyway, white rum or vodka works too)
* 400 cc. (one big cup) of coffee made in a coffeemaker. (Not espresso! Normal coffee. You can make this with instant coffee too, but the flavor is better with coffee freshly brewed).
* Add to taste, as much as you feel like:
- Sugar (I use one cup)
- Cloves
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla
- Nutmeg
- Orange peel if you wanna get fancy
Soooo, you put the milk on a pot at the stove in low heat, adding all the spices and sugar and stuff. Stirr ocassionally and bring it to boil, then get that pot outta the stoves ASAP before it overflows your kitchen.
Meanwhile your coffee has finished dripping. Mix it in a jug with the alcohol of your choice. And /after that/, you stir the coffee/booze mix into the spiced milk.
Strain the beverage, put it into bottles. You should have enough to fill two. If you want more than two bottles, adjust quantities to your liking. Throw that stuff into your refri. It's nice warm, but it's way better served cold and after at least one night of resting inside the refri.

I forgot to add! When stirring the coffee/booze mix into the spiced milk, you gotta do it slooooooowly. Srsly. Normally, whenever a drink calls for milk and alcohol, you want them both as cold as possible (and the milk as fatty as you can), because strong alcohol can make the milk go sour. But if you mix slowly the coffee/alcohol at a warm temperature into hot milk, and stirr very carefully, you shouldn't have any problem at all :3
Re: Lynx's Personal Cola de Mono Recipe
I have done the whole inadvertently curdled cocktail thingy. Yuck. Chewing milk is not yummy. LOL
Re: Lynx's Personal Cola de Mono Recipe
I'm a big fan of white russians, and they always used to curdle when I made them at home. It was only after a lot of googling what was wrong that I found out about some tricks to avoid curdling in milk-based cocktails. I'm totally with you on chewing milk, heh.
