Holiday season is upon us

You can't escape it. And for the most part, even if you don't celebrate anything there is still something you like about it. Even if it is something simple as Starbucks having peppermint flavored drinks on the menu now or driving through your neighborhood at night to see the insanity that is holiday light displays or your city building an ice skating rink in the middle of downtown or just the deep discounted sales everywhere. We all have something that only comes out this time year.

So, what's your favorite thing about this season?

Chocolate Oranges. I have already consumed four (over like 8 weeks). I have a new one on my desk right now. Also, the Walmart here has started CARRYING DARK CHOCOLATE ONES!

It's the one time a year I get to see all of my family together. Looking forward to traveling to see my grandparents, all the aunts and uncles, and the new babies all of the various cousins have had over the past year.

Snow, when we get it. The 'bayberry' and 'spruce' and 'evergreen' smelling candles that go on sale now (yum, yum, yum). The xmas tree. I love how the lights look, the smell of it (we get a cedar tree), how pretty all the glass ornaments are. Brings back cozy childhood memories of all my family all together, so that's very nice.

When i have money - i do love getting people gifts, it's so fun to find things you just *know* someone will love.

Oh my god I am the grinch. I hate or am apathetic to all of it. There is nothing about the cold season I like.

...except maybe the leaves changing colors? Oh and getting to wear cute knitted hats? OH and the way the heat isn't too stifling to have a baking day and let the house fill up with the cozy scent of fresh baked food.

The weather, I guess.

Though, disappointingly it's hot enough to warrant turning on the air conditioning again. Last week I got to wear layers and a scarf, which was very exciting.

I hate this fucking season. I hate just about everything about it.

It's impossible to ruin Christmas, it comes pre-ruined. It's a holiday where you get terrible gifts that you're obliged to fake gratitude for while at the same time nobody ever actually appreciates the gifts you go to the trouble of buying with your limited funds, you're expected to make appearances at family/work/friend gatherings that nobody else really wants to go to except the overly-sentimental, everything is fucking closed for two days unless you like Chinese food (and even those places sometimes close nowadays too) there are exactly three things on TV: Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and yule log video loops, and everyone turns into an asshole for a month before the holiday even starts.

That's pretty much what I was clicking 'reply' to say. Although for me it's less about the drinks themselves (which I do love) and more about the red cups. Also Ghiradelli peppermint bark squares, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Hogfather, and Mary Did You Know?

The food. Since we spent Turkey Day apart, my daddy is cooking a turkey for Christmas. We'll have green beans, ice cream, stuffing, and cranberry sauce! It will be delicious. :)

Christmas is my second favorite holiday so there isn't much I don't like about this time of year. I love the holiday flavors/food, the lights, the music (unless it's on repeat like when I worked in a mall), the decorations, the cheesy Christmas movies in Hallmark and Lifetime, get-togethers with friends. Yep, I love it.

Baking Christmas sweets and watching fairy tales and listening to Henrik Ibsen's plays as audio books and wrapping gifts and I love this season.

I like that it gets dark early and you're either being festive in your cozy house making cookies or watching movies or having booze or something, or out and about being festive and checking out all the sales and weird limited-edition products. It always seems later than it is, which I think is cool, and there are lights and stuff!

Christmas is the only time I am glad I work in a 24/7 callcentre*. I can get out of all the stuff I don't like and be paid extra for it, the exception being my old grandparents I don't see very often.

My family generally celebrates christmas a few days early now. Since half of us work a 24/7 job on christmas day

*family includes nurses, emergency child welfare, ambulance driver siblings, hotel managers...

Peppermint bark, snow, not having to worry about power outages this year because I have a fucking generator!

Also I always get what I want these days because I buy my own presents online(parents pay for it of course.) several months in advance, and have forgotten what I ordered by the time Christmas gets here. It works surprisingly well.

Baking. This time of year I can bake all I want - try new recipes, go to battle with some tough ones I failed at before, bring out my favorite ones that I keep exclusively for winter - and there's always someone to eat them so nothing goes to waste if I make too much or don't like them. :)

I love blundering into the rare store/building/house/whatever that has actual tasteful decorations that look like they were put up with actual sentiment and care and respect, not just a cheap afterthought or show. Pearls in a sea of muck :)

Also, even though I wind up really hating shopping mall christmas music by the time christmas actually comes around, for the first week or so that they play it, before it gets old -- I really love that. 10000x better than the tuneless pop that usually gets played.

I dunno about "favorite", but I observed shortly after Halloween that I couldn't complain about Christmas stuff being in the stores that early when "Christmas stuff" included Lindor's limited edition truffles. Snagged a bag of the dark chocolate peppermint a while ago, am planning to pick up some of the double milk this week, and am trying in vain to find anywhere that's selling the holiday spice, which are of course my favorite of the limited edition. :/
