I think it's kind of funny that both of the essay you mention were written by the same person.

Oh were they? I didn't notice the author's name, those were just the two I saw the most recently

From what I recall the person who writes them is medical student (possibly final year) so maybe they're doing that "I want to think about something other than..." thing we all do when up to our elbows in real work.
