Is it the staring that bothered you? Help me out here, OP.

Methinks they are a Donny/April shipper.

I imagine its the implied threat of sexually motivated violence if she doesn't comply. Creepy guy launched an object at the wall near you at high speed, tells you you're going to do something for him then stares at you. That is not a good heroic character.

I've not seen this scene but from the description I don't read "implied sexualized violence."

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Implied threat of sexually motivated violence??? Really?!

This is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

The thing is... that sounds exactly like what Casey Jones would do, based on every other Iteration of him I've ever watched/read.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I doubt behaviour typical of him is gonna put a dent in his fanbase.

What noodlyguy said up above. Sure, I'm working on long-ago childhood viewings of the various shows and movies, but hasn't Casey Jones always been that kind of asshole? And fandom loves itself some (male) assholes.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
that is some ugly fucking artwork, is all I can say

Super creepy but yeah, sadly it's very in-character for Casey Jones.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
OP here: It was just how he stared at her until she gave in. He didn't ask, he demanded. And she gave in really quickly! With no verification that he was telling the truth. Between Donnie being a major creeper lately, and not learning from Splinter's lesson, and Casey (who, from what we've seen since his intro, is not as much of a jerk, just brash, like a normal teenagers), this show is not giving children good roll models.

....I've become one of THEM, haven't I? *facepalm*

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
That's actually a pretty valid concern. But what about the other turtles? Have they gone off the deep end too? (I only ask because I haven't watched yet.)

I've only heard good things about the show so maybe Casey will get some development.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
IT's not bad to notice stuff like this! When people make a character a jerk and young girls love them unconditionally anyway because they're misunderstood or cool or 'really nice inside' or whatever, then aren't they setting themselves up to act like that in the real world?

FAntasy is fine and fun...but learning real world dangerous elements aren't so cool. And sometimes kids do learn things from what they watch. It's NOT bad to notice bad stuff about characters, even if it seems silly to other people. You're getting things straight in your head. I mean, as long as you don't hate everybody who likes a character you don't (which a lot of people do), you're a cool person as far as i'm concerned. :)

Peace out. :D

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was definitely an uncomfortable moment. I would have been more weirded out if April had seemed intimidated by him, but since she was pretty unimpressed by the whole thing, I let it go.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Is this fan work or is there some high school Ninja Turtle reboot out there that I have somehow missed hearing about?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's a new reboot on Nick.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds very gross...but, I'm sorry, it also looks very gross. It's just, I doubt there's much quality going on at all...

(Anonymous) 2013-12-03 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
yo, OP... has it escaped your notice that characters are ALLOWED to be sexist, flawed, and not 100% "socially just"?

christ, if people like you had your way, ALL entertainment would be chokingly bland, HOMMOGENOUS, perfect little happy, factory-bakery sandwiches... all air, no real substance. AND GOD FORBID ANY VARIATION OR *GASP* CONFLICT!

Nope I don't see any kind of "rapey intent" like people are talking about upthread. It literally just looks like a kid messing around.

I'm annoyed at the suggestion that you can't even have a male character be a teenage jerk doing teenage jerk stuff or being cheeky or teasing without being misconstrued as a violent sexual predator.

This looks like a teenage boy being a jerk / messing around. And trust me I know what it looks like. That was my interaction with most boys when I was a teenager.

LOL THAT'S IT? Jeezus. Casey is uberviolent in the comics, so a teenage boy giving a douchey "yeah I'm awesome' smile is the strongest form of tame. How did you take that as rapey?

Secret 4 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 CGI animated series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-01 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is April and Casey Jones from the 2012 CGI animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". They are both teenagers standing in a school hallway. April has long red hair pulled back, light skin, gray? eyes and is wearing a long-sleeved yellow blouse. She is holding books protectively in front of her chest. Casey Jones is a boy with olive skin, short dark hair and wearing a dark brown and white bandanna around his forehead, a long-sleeved tight brown shirt, a looser gray shirt, a brown leather vest, and dark gloves. He is holding a hockey stick? and leaning in uncomfortably close next to April's face. He looks hopeful while she looks unamused.]

Am I being overly sensitive in the way he was introduced? He hits April's locker with a hockey puck, surprising/irritating her, announces she's to tutor him for extra credit. And then stares at her until she gives in.

Secret Because: Casey Jones is a fandom darling.
