OP here. I am a (reasonably) attractive woman, and I play games, and I am a real game girl. What I don't do is get naked on videos that I then put up online while going on about how I'm so hot and men should love me because I'm a special snowflake gamer girl.

Who does do that?

Just look them up FFS before judging me on one word in my post that implies I think negatively of someone.

No, I'm pretty familiar with Team Unicorn. But they don't get naked on camera and demand people like them or talk about being a special snowflake, unless it's in a parody song and then it's not to be taken seriously because parody.

here's the thing, though - even if you find that behavior objectionable, which is whatever, why is that reason to question their credentials as gamers?

as far as I can see they're two different issues, and they're really pretty separate. their legitimacy as gamers, and the shit that they do that annoys you - what is the link between them? because as far as I can see there isn't any. they're gamer girls who also (per you) go on about how they're so hot and men should love them or whatever.

Maybe, but that behaviour does suggest they are prone to doing things for attention, and care more about being seen to be hot than being seen as legitimate gamers therefore I have reasons to doubt their creds.

When you act like a pinup girl rather than a serious person you can't complain when people don't take you seriously.

Holy fuck.

I'm actually speechless.

Again, I don't see a causal link between those things - they're very different claims. second, even if they care about being seen as hot, that still doesn't mean they're not legitimate gamers. third, I think "does things for attention" covers a lot more territory than just Team Unicorn even amongst people you'd consider 'legitimate gamers'.

God, the misogyny in this post.

I seriously hope you are trolling. If not that then I hope you're young, or at least don't have any children.

ayrt

Right, okay, but how does getting naked change that they're still big gaming nerds? I personally find their videos tongue-in-cheek and fun, poking fun at the very thing we're arguing about here. So what, precisely, is the appropriate personality for a "real gamer girl" to have in your opinion? Because you're saying that it's impossible to both be overtly sexy and be a gamer, which is policing like hell.

So your disapproval of their other hobbies somehow "de-legitimizes" their gaming hobby?

waaaah

people are getting attention that aren't me

I'm the REAL special snowflake here! why doesn't anyone like me?

but what does that have to do with *your* hobbies, your experience as a gamer, or you identifying as a gamer?

To be honest you are feeding into problems of sexism and stereotypes against women gamers.
