Anything could be an entry point for a hobby OP, don't let it trouble you. That looks like a cool video, BTW!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
It only wouldn't go down well because of all the people afraid to admit that's why they started.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
No, that's awesome, and I know of other people who have gained interest for parkour because of Mirror's Edge!

Agreeing that there's nothing wrong with how you got into it. LOLing that you think people don't know.

That's an amazing video, OP, and you shouldn't feel guilty at all. Parkour is awesome. Profesionally done parkour with cool shots and angles and all the production? Well, it looks like something out of this world!

My interest in parkour started when I watched the Assassin's Creed Parkour video :3 I'm still too unfit to even attempt it, but boy, does it look neat!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
...There are other reasons people get into parkour?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I love parkour videos that actually take the philosophy to heart. But it seems so much of what I find are needless flips and jumps that are just to show off the ability to do a flip and have nothing to do with efficiency of movement.

I know, I'm just a giant buzzkill.

There's a pretty good Assassin's Creed one?

I did not realize there was philosophy to parkour. Color me curious.

There are actually several philosophies for parkour. The one I prefer focuses on seeing the potential in your surroundings and knowing how to use them to maximize efficiency. It's artistry in an economy of movement.

But pretty much everyone I've met who actually tries to live in the headspace of parkour is kind of disgusted by the showboating of "Watch me flip down these two steps! Look at my series of complex jumps and rolls that I'm going to make down this perfectly straight and level sidewalk! Look at mee!!!!"

But that's an awesome reason to get into Parkour.

Meh, if you enjoy it then it doesn't matter what initially made you gain interest. I never thought about parkour much before Assassin's Creed, but after that and Mirror's Edge I admit I think it's incredibly cool. I'm not fit enough to attempt it, but hey, if you are enjoy yourself! What other people think shouldn't be your concern.

Also, Faith's hair is excellent; I'm sure you rock it, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
The reason you got into parkour isn't any weirder than the fact that you're into parkour.

Nah, this is legit. Mirror's Edge is cool, and it made me think "damn maybe I should try parkour."

Of course when I thought about it more I realized that I would about die, given my lack of athletic ability, but more power to you!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, I swear I made this exact same secret a few years back. Only it was because of the game itself. Still do it. Still love it. But it doesn't matter how you got into it really, only that you do it at all. Kudos to you, OP.

Secret 1 - Mirror's Edge (videogame)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2014-01-01 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture of a YouTube video titled "Mirror's Edge Parkour POV", uploaded by the user "Ampisound". It shows the camera from the point of view of someone's eyes. This person is standing on the edge of a concrete beam? at the edge of a parking lot building, several floors high. They are looking down at the street below. There are the words "AMPISOUND production" over the street, as a credit?]

This video is why I started doing parkour. I don't think it would go down well if I admit I started it because I wanted to be like a videogame character.

Bonus: I had my hair cut like Faith's for a cosplay I did and I'm now keeping it that way.
