Man, fuck that. If I don't like the movies, I'm going to say so. I agree that it's kind of dumb to treat the original text as though its sacrosanct, but at the same time, you know, I kind of think the movies aren't that good, and the fact that they also changed a lot from the books (in addition to not being that good) makes it even harder for me to enjoy them. Don't see why that's such an offensive opinion.

Bless you for using the word "sacrosanct". I needed it for my writing project and I've been wracking my brains all day trying to remember the word that started with "s" and meant something sacred.

Seriously. It shouldn't be held to be an offensive opinion.

It's like this: some people x some forum were purists assholes, therefore all those who don't like the movie are assholes.

Gotta love fandom.

It's not an offensive opinion: "No sane book fan can watch these movies or care for the shit done there" (check below) is an offensive opinion. It's also an incredibly common opinion in Tolkien fandom.
