Hobbies?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
What are your favourite hobbies? The ones you do most often, and/or the ones you wish you had more time for.

I like art (portrait sketching, painting) although I can't be arsed to do it much these days. I would KILL for a good place to do ballroom dancing in my area, especially one with a lot of blokes so I can follow instead of leading.

Drawing, and fanfic. I really like sewing too, but don't really do it much. I'm still trying to figure out how to make nice looking draw sting bags.

I do draw sometimes.

Does reading fic count as a hobby?

I like finding and watching seemingly bad movies, b-movies and weird movies. That's my main non-fandomish hobby.

And from what I've seen on your streams, you're very good at it. :)

Aww, thanks. I wish I had more rl friends who were into the same thing. Going to resell shops and browsing the VHS and DVDs is pretty much the most fun thing. Especially when you are standing in the store reading the back of the box of something that sounds just abysmal and trying not to laugh while do a serious 'announcer' voice.

Knitting and crocheting, writing, baking. I used to do ballet but my joints can't handle it anymore and I really miss it.

Writing essays on plot things and stuff like that. I never do it anymore because I so often feel too tired to spare any brain power after classes. Same deal with fanfiction.

Currently it's all about dancing, which I do every break at work as prep for the upcoming end of term show. I would be doing it at home, too, if it wasn't for that I'm so very hooked on a few fanfic archives. ( Dredd, Eleventh Hour, War Horse, the Loki/Jane side of Thor fandom etc.)

reading fic, video games, writing, movie, shopping (can that be a hobby?)

I'm also getting into cosplay & a little lolita with the intent to learn to sew and diy.

I guess comic books. I don't really collect them -- who's got the money for that? -- but I am a voracious reader of them, particularly of 80s and 90s comics.

Re: Hobbies?

Where do you read them if you don't buy them? /curious

Torrents. A massive amount of these are way, way out of print anyway.

Dueling!~~~ As in, playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, both online and irl. Easily my number one hobby.

Does "fandom" count as a hobby? I like to consume various kinds of media (not just games), and I've been fond of reading my whole life though I don't dedicate as much time to it as I used to. I also like to cosplay and go to cons and read/write fic.

I like debates. I like cooking but I don't do it as much as I'd like and I'm not very good at it. I love spending time with my dogs, and also stuff having to do with animals in general (learning about them, going to zoos, visiting other peoples' animals, etc.)

Writing and reading fanfic (and reading original fiction; I'd write original fiction as well if I ever got solid ideas for it anymore), overthinking the relatively small amount of television I watch, customizing My Little Ponies, and knitting. I'm learning to crochet a bit for toymaking purposes, but it doesn't click with me the way knitting does.

Reading, both original stuff and fanfic
Writing
Watching movies
Swimming, although not as much anymore
Team trivia - before I moved, my friends and I were a team and went 2-3 times a week. I miss it.

Reading, even though it's a very general hobby to list I count it as one.

I like collecting cards from TGC's that have pretty artwork on them, I've got 5+ folders full, and one dedicated entirely to dragon cards. As well as complete pokémon TGC sets up to the Team Rocket set, and one complete WoW TGC set I think too.

Play tabletop RPG's, though I do that less these days because I don't have a dungeon group anymore to play with.

Play volleyball, though I don't have the time for practice at the moment. :(

I love playing cards but other than my family it's difficult to get enough people together. You wouldn't think that it was that hard to find four people who know how to play the same game.

I used to be quite decent at charcoal sketching. I don't know where that skill went :( I forgot how to do it, along with playing the guitar.

Hobbies I still do are writing (fics! the originals, I don't consider a hobby), and drawing. And I love to RP. But I'm currently without a partner ^^;;

Reading, gaming, Munchkin, cross-stitching, and making latch hook rugs.

Re: Hobbies?

Tell me of your cross-stitching (she said, not intending to sound sarcastic but suspecting that she did). I'm just starting to get interested in it again after not doing any for years, and I'm interested in hearing other people talk about it.

I write a blog (intlwota.com/happydisco) about Japanese music and contribute to two other websites about it. :) This gets pretty time consuming, so while I'm trying to figure out other writing hobbies (fiction writing and another blog about movies/games), this has pretty much consumed my free time. Last night I wrote a review that ended up about 4000 words long. Thaat took forever.

I also knit, play video games, and draw. I played the clarinet in high school, and pull that out once in a while.

Right now for knitting I finished a super cute hat and I'm making Christmas ornaments. :)

Painting (watercolor mostly, though I'm testing out oils), das video gamen, the occasional board game, hiking/survival camping, scuba, lifting and jogging when I have the time...

I'd say baking and cooking, but that's more of an every day thing. Although I do like experimenting with food in fun ways such as learning to make puff pastry.

I have variously sewed, knitted, and done other stuff like wig styling and prop-making for cosplay. Don't do as much of that these days, though I lend a hand with my skills and machine when people need it.

I've cared for horses, built chicken coops, laid tile, laid carpet, done refinishing of furniture and floors, and recently successfully grown my own vegetables... so I guess you could say DIY/farmhanding is also a bit of a hobby.

Yep. I try to be a jack of all trades so that I don't have to pa others to do work for me. I'm not rich but the result is I live cheaply and very well compared to others in my financial situation.
