A Scanner Darkly. Most reviews basically boiled down to "it's ABOUT DRUGS! and it's ANIMATED! TRIIIIIPYYYYYYY!!!!panties 8d" and completely glossed over the fact that it's a savage and depressing critique of drug culture and the war on drugs that stays 90% faithful to the original Philip K. Dick novel.

Is it good, then? I wanted to watch it! But got discouraged, because while I love Phillip K. Dick, the novel was a little bit too much for me (re: I understood jackshit, same with The Naked Lunch. And that made my ego hurt 8'C)

It's very, very good. One of my favourites. Just get ready to be sad. For days.

It's ok, I'm used to depressing Sci-Fi (and non-Sci-Fi writers being depressing in other genres). I'll just wait for a day I'm in the right mood for it ;3 Thanks for the rec, Detholl! (Though, I think I'll try to get a subbed version, because attempting that book in English... *still bitter about it*)

That was one of PKD's better-edited books, too. He can be hard to get through, even for native speakers.

That being said, the movie is easier to follow. It IS a movie after all. :)

I saw that recently and really enjoyed it. I should read some Philip K. Dick but I haven't come across him in the used book sales where I get most of my books so I haven't gotten around to it yet.
