That truck-passing thing is legitimately the reason why I am glad my state doesn't have split speed limits. It's bad enough with the existing cruise control races, don't add to that with making it happen at 15mph slower than the flow of traffic. It's dangerous, yo.

ITA. And the car behind me kept coming closer, like it was gonna ride my ass because the semi literally took 5+ minutes to pass the other car. Like what do you want me to do about it? I even slowed down a bit more because of that, because from what I've heard crashing into the back of a semi can be especially deadly.

It depends on the kind of car you drive, and I think there's been some kind of legislation to remove the worst danger, but on a lot of cars, the bottom of the trailer door is about level with your head during a crash. The trailer also juts far enough from the wheel base that a smaller compact car might not even really lose any speed from the crash until your windshield hits steel.

Yep, that's what I heard. You can be decapitated by it, apparently. (Or if not that I imagine you could sustain enough head trauma to be killed immediately.)
