Re: You're assuming the heroes are being honest

I really like this point, even though I disagree with the idea that the heroes should just do nothing if they aren't licensed to. This is why I like a nuanced exploration of the reasons why people might logically be suspicious of or outright oppose superheroes (or mutants or mages or whatever). Just because they're justified in reality doesn't mean people shouldn't expect them more from them than their honest-to-gosh word that everything they did was necessary.

Oh no, I don't think heroes should stay on the sidelines or anything. I just think there are valid reasons why the rage against heroic destruction comes up, and it's part of that real life vs fiction friction. It's one of the reasons I like the X-Men storylines so much: they both explore racism and othering while also being reasonably concerned about people who can pick up cars and shoot fire.
