Hey, I like that song! Now, what's this secret about...

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, you get upset when people LIKE a song that's special to you? So how do you feel when they don't like it?

I can't help but think I'm completely missing something here. Either OP left something out of their secret or I'm just not understanding the words I'm reading...

Secret 5 - Music

[Picture is sheet music.]

Even though I know it's not fair to other people, I can't stand it when someone casually mentions liking a song that has a very special meaning to me.

These are the pianochords to one of those songs that are close to my heart.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
well, just because they are all casual on the inside doesn't mean that they aren't all super emotional on the inside or that it doesn't mean anything special to them either

if that's what bothers you, rather than the fact they like it at all??

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. If you're talking with someone you don't know that well, consider that they might actually like that song in a special way too, but most people aren't going to wax poetic about how personally touched they are by a certain song with someone they barely know...

...really? Wow.

Actually, this makes me think of how I feel when I'm dueling and I face someone running an archetype that is near and dear to my heart, especially if I'm using a different deck. It doesn't make me feel really upset, just kinda weird.

But then I get over it because I don't own archetypes anymore than you own music.

I think what you mean is that when somebody just says they like a song that you hold very dear, you get annoyed because it doesn't mean as much to them? Kind of weirdly possessive, don't you think?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
so what would it take to express the emotions in a suitable non-casual way?
in-depth analysis? balls-to-the-wall display of emotions?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I sort of feel this way, but I think mine is for different reasons. On the one hand I feel defensive of the song itself, like it merits more feeling than that, which I think is what you're saying, but on the other hand I also feel a little intruded upon, almost made vulnerable, even if the person isn't aware that the song means so much to me.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I admit I do this too, petty as it is.

I dunno what it is. Is it that someone has a special experience and don't want to share it with anyone else? And having someone else mention they like the song kind of intrudes upon that experience and/or forces the first fan to "share" what they don't want to share? Also pettiness?

I once rolled my eyes when I was reading a fandom friend's blog and they mentioned they were "adopting" a song from an album dear to me (at the time) to express themselves, because they were going through a weird time and were "adopting" a bunch of songs for self-expression. Looking back, it was really dumb to be so annoyed about it. But damn, it was *mine*, LMAO.

Does anyone know what the song is?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be "Read all about it" by Emeli Sande (?).
