Secret 1 - Bridge of Birds (fantasy book)

[Picture is the cover of the book "Bridge of Birds" by Barry Hughart. It has the subtitle "A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was". It shows the painting of a woman in salmon pink Chinese-style robes dancing? while birds fly around her and towards a mountain in the distance. It is in the style of those really old Chinese paintings with minimal lines.]

I think this is one of the best books I've ever read. The ending is definitely in my top three. This is the type of book that keeps me hunting despite the dreck that's 99% of fantasy. But no one else seems to have heard of it.

The bit about the proper way to cook porcupines leaves me in tears every time...
