I don't think there's ever been a character catchphrase more illuminating than "I have a slight flaw in my character." It reveals what sort of person Li is (a casual murderer who's only technically a good guy), what sort of person he wants people to think he is (a font of wisdom with one tiny little crack), and how he accomplishes it (through the vague language of the seer, and the respect accorded to an honored elder.)

Man, my interpretation of his character is wayyyyy more positive than yours, I guess.

Actually, I'm pretty positive towards him, since he channels his "flaw" constructively. I think he's an exampl of the "heroic sociopath" type, but in his own way he tries to be a good person and only hurt bad people. (Compare, say, Belkar from The Order of the Stick, who has a similar "flaw," but relishes it and doesn't wish to improve himself.)

Ah! That's definitely a lot closer to my view - I wouldn't call him a sociopath, but that's ultimately a semantic point. I think ultimately he's in a lot of ways a decent person, but one who is utterly lacking in compunction. And I don't think his behavior is camouflage, or anything - I think most of his refinement comes naturally to him.
