Because we all know that the 'ideal' love between a man and a woman is romantic, and the 'ideal' love between two men(and two women) is platonic. How dare anyone think otherwise.

(It bothers me too, even more so that if you took the typical TV bromance(including lady friendships as well but I don't know if there's a different term for it) and flipped one of the genders everyone would expect them to hook up.)
