I don't think it would be gross at all. You're boiling it. (I've never thought it was gross to use bathroom tap water for eating or drinking. After all, you brush your teeth with it, right? And I use it to take medicine.)

see I'm conflicted with myself here because I too have never feared a cupped palm's worth of water to take some pills or clean my mouth out post toothpaste, but for some reason I don't think I've ever filled a cup with it to drink, even when I was at home. I realize this is odd but...I don't know???

It might not be. What kind of water do you have? Is it well water? city water? What do you usually drink for drinking water? Where you live might even be relevant.

When we first moved into my current house, we had well water, and it smelled and tasted strongly like minerals, so even though we bathed and brushed our teeth with it, we drank water that we bought by the gallon from the store. After we switched to city water (the whole neighborhood chipped in to have it installed some five or ten years ago) we switched to drinking from the sink, though we do fill up a pitcher and put it in the fridge to make it colder.
