Since there are some about names already, I thought of another name one. It's going in the opposite direction of nicknames as pet peeves and is pretty assholish, but anyway: people with names that are almost always conventionally shortened refusing to have theirs shortened. If your name is Alexandra and you won't let people call you Alex or Allie or Sandra or anything else shorter than the full four syllables, I'm going to think you're stuck up. For guys it's even worse, sorry. The only "Joseph" I know who doesn't go by Joe is a spoiled brat.

Yeah, no. My name is my name and no one shortens it because that's not what I go by.

Doesn't bother me for a nickname I gave myself.

Admittedly, I'm weird about people shortening my given name. You can call my by my full first name (or my full last name), but I get really twitchy about people's names.

Before the replies come in, I am aware that I'm horrible and a stuck up hypocrite myself. My parents stuck me with a four syllable name that's hard to nickname and I'm butthurt.

No. If you can't bring your self to say four syllables you are incredibly lazy. You don't get to dictate the name others identify as in public in order to save yourself that incredibly small amount of breath.

Sorry, but I'll call someone by their preferred name, whether it's a nickname or their full name because I do not get to dictate what to call another person.
