I honestly don't understand how anyone can care enough about Family Guy to have an emotional reaction to that one way or another

Mte.

I'm starting to see the "haha, daughters are gross and must be hated on" bullshit coming into America Dad lately, and it's making me sad. I like American Dad, but if Hailey becomes the new Meg 2.0, I'm done.

Unfortunately, I think that's the natural conclusion for the show, given the route Family Guy took. I mean nearly all the jokes in the show now revolve around how women suck, people of color suck, etc.

Why men writing in media is not a good thing. It's not Just family guy, it's seeping into everything. From the simpsons to the discovery channel.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Men can still write in media, I just wish they grew some actual empathy and applied it to people who weren't male or white or heterosexual. There are some men who can pull that off. Seth M doesn't even TRY.

And moreover seems to consider his not-trying something to be proud of.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I'd like to remind him that setting up straw-characters to knock over is probably the easiest thing to do when you're writing. Just ask your average fanfic writer.

I have noticed the progression of Lisa having friends in the earlier seasons to Lisa Griffon. I mean, what the hell happened? I'm glad she at least has Nelson and Milhouse, because I really don't care for the 'Lisa all alone she sucks' episodes.

I don't remember Lisa having friends in the earlier seasons. I mean, her going to the beach and making friends with all the cool kids was a pretty big deal for her.

Yes we should have writers like Lena Dunham instead

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Who?

No men! No men allowed in media at all! Send 'em to the salt mines, where they belong!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if you meant for this comment to be funny, but I lol'ed...

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
WATCH BOB'S BURGER
ok, they have also a lot of women writer, but no daughter bashing there, it's fucking brilliant

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I don't feel like Hailey is becoming "the new Meg"... Her character has been stuck in a rut since she lost Jeff, and it's kind of obvious that the writers don't know what else to do with her, but she's not really treated like the gross, unwanted creature that Meg became in Family Guy. I mean, yeah, her personality clashes with Stan's, and so he makes it no secret that he's disappointed in his daughter, but to be fair, Stan does the exact same thing with his son, Steve.

It comes mostly from Roger, but it's still there.

Now if they wanted to kill off a character, Roger would get my vote.

They've ran out of ideas for him and they can't even pair him with Steve because they've mined that seam to its end and Steve is funnier with Barry, Snot, and the Japanese. Or just with Stan himself. Roger fulfils no function any longer, he's like Klaus now just showing up to remind us he is there.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Toshi. "The Japanese".... is Toshi.

But yeah, I agree that Roger is pretty much useless at this point. Every now and again his different costumes and personae will still get a giggle out of me, but I just don't feel any of his relationships with the Smith family any more.

I don't know about caring about the show, but considering that his death scene was pretty graphic I can see why people would find it upsetting. Especially people who have pets. He was shown rolling under the tires of the car, and that's something no dog owner (or anyone who cares about animals) wants to see.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't there been a lot of graphic deaths in Family Guy though? I mean it usually tries to play them for comedy, but I don't see why it would make a difference in a serious scene.
