Re: Theories/headcanons about canonical mysteries

Oh man, Mandy. *shakes my head* Just one line about her going straight home in the season 2 premiere, and a mention about her quitting over the phone in The Midterms -- it woudldn't have just been acceptable, it could be incredibly poignant. Like a This Job Could Be Some Serious Shit You're Getting Into moment where her going "fuck this job" could be a foreshadowing moment to show how the other characters shouldn't take the responsibilities of working for the President lightly or something equally Sorkinian ;)

Anyway, that's what I theorize happened to Mandy -- I'm just pissed it wasn't in the episode.

My answer to that the eternal question of old cranky Sherlockians -- was Watson's "bull pup" a gun, a dog, or a quick temper -- is that it was a quick temper.

But wait! you say. Watson never had a quick temper in canon!

Well no, and that's exactly it: he said those are the principal vices at present, because he has another set of vices when he's well. Which was evidently true, because none of the other vices he listed ever came up again either, because they were all directly connected to his having been at war. And having mood swings/fits of temper/irritability is one of the most common symptoms of PTSD, so no doubt it was a vice that wore off when his mental health improved, along with laziness and waking up in the middle of the night and hating noise.

However, I am now very curious about what that "other set of vices" was...

I'd guess that gambling and womanizing were two of them. And ogling other men's wives :D

What else would be in-character for him? Maybe he reads books while he walks and smashes into people while trying to stroll down the street? Maybe he carries a notebook everywhere and constantly scribbles down everything he hears?

I think it was a dog, because I like thinking about Watson walking about with a dog.
