Find a less horrible kink meme.

That is easy to say for someone who can and will write for more than one fandom, but what about fans who only write for one fandom at a time? What happens if the only kink meme for their fandom is "horrible"?

They just have to sift through the prompts and find ones that are not bad.

But the fandom is huge, and I don't much mind it being horrible. I mean, if I end up writing something terrible, it probably just blends in better than it would in a smaller fandom. I hope. Does that make sense?

Do it! Honestly, forcing yourself to write more, even if you are doing this kind of thing, really helps. I was updating my blog a couple of times a month when I decided to put it on a schedule; three days a week I'd post 3-4 posts. I thought I would get burnt out, but it's pushed me to want to write more. :)

Do it then. Nothing is stopping you!

I don't see how this is a bad thing? Go for it! You (possibly) get over your writing block, and some anon gets a pompt fill. Everybody wins!

Excellent point! Thanks!

Secret 9 - Supernatural Kink Meme

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-08 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Sam and Dean Winchester from the TV series "Supernatural". They're two men with light skin and short brown hair wearing shirts and jackets and looking upset and cringing at something off-screen.]

I am tempted to fill random prompts on the kink_meme, just to get over my writer's block.

Notes

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-08 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
For context, the Supernatural Kink Meme has the reputation of having, uh, fairly extreme content.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-08 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This has usually worked for me, and I've had my ups an downs in writing for about ten years. Exchanges also work to get the writing flowing, I've found.

Although, I've never tried the Supernatural kink meme before. Is there something particular about that one (aside from the extreme kinkiness) or is it just a fandom you're in?

OP here

(Anonymous) 2013-12-09 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The kink_meme is insane and big, so it would give me the opportunity to take a prompt and just run with it, without the feeling of the characters frowning at me, so to speak.

It would be more carefree writing than I'm used to, simply because, although I'm familiar enough with the show to write fic, I'm also casual enough not to take it too seriously.

It's comforting to know something like this has worked for you. Maybe it'll work for me too!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhhh...so do it?

A lot of people fill prompts on kink memes to get the writing juices going. I know I do, and I've written some fic for that specific kink meme that I still look back on without cringing. :D

(Anonymous) 2013-12-08 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a lot of fun in the Hetalia kink_meme back when I was in the fandom. Prompts are a great way to get over writer's block, especially when you don't have a name or account to make you worry about reputation.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-08 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason, this secret reminded me of the "Only good authors, please!" trollmeme on the BBC Sherlock kinkmeme that happened a couple years ago. Don't know why, but it did.

.. isn't that .. kinda .. one of the points of a kink!meme?

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-12-09 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think so, but my problem is that I sort of feel/felt (at least until reading the replies to this secret,) like an impostor going there. It's a bit difficult to explain, but as I don't eat and breathe and bathe in Supernatural, and only watch the show casually, I should have no right to be writing for it. Silly, I know, but it's not like I can help it.

But apparently I'm getting over my hangups, thanks to people here.

I kinda wish you were in the Hobbit Fandom. The kink meme can always do with more writers (I'd personally prefer more Bigginshirld, Durincest or Dwalin/Nori and less Thranduil/Thorin or Thranduil/Kili, but that's just my personal likes and dislikes).

OP here

(Anonymous) 2013-12-09 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, this actually helped!

Before, I felt like an impostor just thinking about writing for this fandom, since I'm a pretty casual fan, and the fandom seems quite... intense. And I like my head right where it is, thanks very much, instead of bitten off and on a stake. But, yeah, I feel better about it now.

Thanks all for the new perspective.
