Browser opinion!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-08 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now I use Firefox, but I am looking to use a secondary browser for reasons and need some help on what program to use. Suggestions? Opinions? One browser to rule them all?

I switched from Firefox to Chrome awhile back. Chrome still has its problems and I don't think there's a perfect browser, but I like it more than anything else.

I switched to Chrome a year or so ago. Firefox is too much of a memory hog for my tastes, but I do still have it so I can log into my older email address without having to sign out of my current one.

I switched to Chrome because of memory issues as well, but recently it's been getting just as bad. (Then again, with only 2 gigs of RAM, I've sort of resigned myself to my fate.)

That is essentially what I'm looking for a secondary browser for. I'm managing a few blogs, sites, and email addresses and would like to be able to work with them all at the same time.

I'm pretty much Firefox-only so I don't really have any advice to contribute, but if you could give some vague idea of what your reasons are for wanting a secondary browser people might be better able to help you find which one best fits your needs.

Essentially I'd like to have multiple accounts open at the same time to be able to work on various sites I manage. As well as various email addresses.

I've not used them, so I can't vouch for their ease or security, but Chrome has Multi Account Login and Firefox has Multifox that let you have multiple accounts for the same sites.

Opera's private tabs

If you don't need all the accessibility bells and whistles, try Pale Moon. It's a slightly lighter-weight version of Firefox that can use the same extensions and run at the same time as FF.

Snobbery aside, you are probably best with Internet Explorer as a secondary browser. It is still the most widely supported browser in the world, and designed for idiots to use (cue obvious jokes), and the one that computer help services are most likely to be able to solve any problems with (cue joke about uninstalling it...).

Or you could be a hipster and install Mosaic, it was the browser people used before the web was popular.

As a secondary browser Chrome all the way.

I feel like I should be using Chrome as my main but I can't just leave Firefox...

Judging by your reasons, Chrome is probably your best bet. It's faster than the others by a bit and it's becoming more widely supported. It has a simpler design and takes up less memory than Firefox or Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer, by the way, tries to set itself as default on a reoccurring basis, which is annoying.) I wouldn't recommend Chrome as a primary place to have bookmarks, though, because their system isn't the best.

Another browser worth considering is Torch, which is basically Google Chrome except it hasn't been copyright flagged and so you can still download videos off Youtube with it. Chrome can sadly no longer do this.
