From what (admittedly little) I've seen, a lot of the horror in Lovecraft is drawn from his overpowering anxiety over one of three things: women, foreigners, and seafood. Accurate?

Foreigners, definitely. Seafood, possibly. Can't say anything about women because they seem to be invisible.

A lot of the Lovecraftian horrors can be summed up as vaginas with teeth and/or tentacles. I can't recall any specific examples, but I remember thinking when I first started getting into his work, "Wow, this guy has a lot of vagina anxiety."

Pretty much. One of his stories pretty much ends with "But worse then the tentacles... SHE WAS A NEGRESS."

A lot of his evil alien creatures came from the sea (well, they came from another dimension, really, but they migrated to Earth's seas). His most famous alien monster, Cthulhu, lives deep under the ocean and had head like a cephalopod.
