Except Olaf WAS important to the plot. He was kind of an obvious plot device. Which is good, because for teh younger kids who may not ave gotten some of the more complicated aspects of the film, he was kind of straight forward "hi!! i resentment the happy childhood and hey!! people who you love are worth melting for!! huh huh? get it? love? melting?"

Besides, I thought he was way more toned down than Maximus was (as much as i liked that horse) and Louis from PatF. I found Louis VERY annoying. And he was NO WHERE NEAR as all over the place as the gargoyles from Hunchback.

It's very subjective for each and every person, but to me, he was one of the more tame Disney sidekicks.
