The idea of a fandom on facebook causes me so much imagined embarrassment. There would be no way that could be private or secure enough to make it worth it for me.

There are groups that are closed (you have to be approved by a mod to post and see posts). I'm in a Star Trek group on Facebook and it's fab (though I haven't posted on quite a while).

No kidding. I don't even share any of my fan art on Facebook (despite privacy settings set to near maximum) for that sole reason. I was a part of a comic book-related group for a while, but I left when things got kinda silly/way off topic at times for my liking.

But hey, if some people can make it work and/or aren't fussed about that sort of thing, more power to 'em!

Some folks just make a separate FB account for fandom that never involved their real accounts...

If you have closed groups, it doesn't translate over THAT much. I'm friends with a bunch of fandom friends on Facebook, so my FB is covered in JPop right now, but the posts I do in groups are chill and fun.

Though none of them involve fanfic, so idk?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
That sucks. But, hey, that's how shit goes.

The idea of fandom on Facebook is mortifying. I've become Facebook friends with people I met in fandom, but out fannish interaction takes place elsewhere. I'm trying to imagine my relatives, the people I knew in high school, the people I've worked with - in sum, *everybody* - knowing I write porn about pop culture characters. It's too terrible.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too. Even knowing that people make different Facebook accounts -- Facebook just feels like it's supposed to be... I don't know.

I'm only facebook friends with people I've met in real life and even then I'm not facebook friends with most of my fandom friends, we all just keep our lives pretty separate.

Uh...you would have a different name for those FB pages? I mean, seriously - i'm not 'me' on FB - i have a totally fake name, mostly so rl people i know don't look me up. If i were posting fic on FB (which seems really odd, how would you even do that?) I'd just make up a name, get a matching gmail account to sign up with and Bob's your uncle.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
This is what I do with all of my fandom. I have a fandom gmail and all my accounts: FF.Net, AO3, etc. are set up with that account. It is even my main account as I use the google docs in it all the time. My personal is secondary, because I get very little personal e-mail. But, I've never used facebook for fandom. I'm not sure how it would work. I am in communities on Google+ though. I'd assume it is close to the same.

Yeah, it's weird. You can't make super-long posts on FB that i'm aware of, so...who knows.

I'll stick to LJ and AO3 and Tumblr for my fannish 'fixes'.

Fanfic gets posted in the notes, but I think the poster is implying that they get support FROM FB for fics posted elsewhere.

At least, that's what I do...

Huh. Interesting.

Secret 4 - Criminal Minds fanfiction

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-10 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the main cast of the TV series "Criminal Minds", all lined up.]

This used to be an amazing fanfiction fandom on Facebook. People from all over the world exchanging ideas and supporting each other. Now, a handful of people have caused it to completely fall apart. There is mistrust and arguments everywhere. I'm really going to miss that Facebook account.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Criminal Minds the show, but this is the first I've heard it had amazing fanfiction anywhere.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-10 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, this.

Ass

Truth. I would almost sell my soul at this point for some good gen h/c which didn't involve horrible views about mental illness.
