Shows that have become bad, but you don't mind their badness

In contrast to the thread above! Shows you still think of fondly even though they've gone downhill.

Criminal Minds.

Gosh, has it gone downhill. But I'll always have a lot of fondness for the earlier stuff, and catch it when I can.

Mad Men, tbh. Although their seasons are always better viewed as a whole arc not week-to-week; and their episodes are always better without the commercial breaks. They are always in the most jarring places.

Yeah, I saw the first few seasons when they'd already aired, and that makes me wonder if that helped them be more enjoyable - then again, I know people who watched all or most of the seasons as they aired and only really had a problem with the last few. I know I would have gotten bored with season two pretty quickly if I'd been watching it on air.

There's a definite tonal shift over the series, which I think is supposed to be reflective of the cultural one across the '60s. It gets very cynical. Which I don't mind as much as some, as it seems quite intentional.

For me, I think the series has become more character-based than plot-based. Season 4 was the worst in that regard, but the past 3 seasons have had a higher number of wheel-spinny episodes that don't move the story and characters forward. The treatment of Don's secret past is a good example- S1 Pete attempts to blackmail Don with it, and S3 it instigates Betty's divorce proceedings; both major plot moments as well as character ones. In S4 Don freaks out because the DoD does a background check on him for the aerospace account, but the focus isn't on the professional implications of possibly being revealed and then of losing that account (and making Pete take the fall), but rather on Don's personal ~torment~ over his own cowardice. It wasn't even a major development that season, just one episode. And then S6 is whorehouses all the way down.

But as the thread says, I still like the show and don't mind its badness that much. They're wise to end it next season. Looking forward to seeing how!

X-Files. The later seasons weren't great and I lost interest, but I will always think fondly and have a love for X-Files.

Even with the last two seasons it's still my all-time favorite show. <3

Downton Abbey. I could not give less of a damn that it's become totally melodramatic and preposterous and meandering, just let me keep seeing the characters and don't kill off Mr. Carson or Mrs. Hughes or Mrs. Patmore and I'll take whatever they give. :)

I feel the same way! Haven't seen the latest run yet though. Thus far I'm also stupidly attached to Mary, but I would be so much more devastated by Carson, Hughes, or Patmore. Or Anna.

Oh yeah, no way can Anna die. Not after everything she's been though to get to this point. I love Mary too but I would be okay with her dying, for obvious gloopy reasons.

The only thing I want out of it is MORE THOMAS. But other than that, I love it's ridiculousness.

If any of those three die, we riot. And the melodrama is part of its charm.

So am I! But those are the ones that I couldn't stand to see die, not even in the most heartfelt and appropriate way.

Me too :) I will watch it until the end as long as those three survive to the end. Their friendships are lovely.

The Office... the later seasons were nowhere near as good as the last few (or several), but I don't think they were necessarily as bad either (with the exception of the last two, but it seemed people gave up as early as season five, which I actually really liked).

Also, Buffy - though in that case I generally just see seasons 1-3 Buffy and seasons 5-7 Buffy as two different shows, with season 4 as the transition.

Friends was pretty bad towards the end but I still liked watching it.

I'm just going to pre-emptively say Game Of Thrones.

Yeah, I can't wait until they get to book 5 and try to deal with that shit without it going downhill like a fucking ski slope

True Blood. Not that it was high-quality programming in the first place, but dear god it went down the shitter quick. But thanks to the copious amount of naked male ass, I don't mind.

Grey's Anatomy. It's nowhere near as good as it was in its best seasons but I feel like it's developed its own comfortable little groove of general okayness that's still fairly enjoyable to watch, even if certain storylines still irritate me (why do you insist on fucking up Bailey, show?).

Teen Wolf

It's really the little things that really bug me about this, like the "someone you have an emotional attachment to has to pull you out of freezing water just seconds after you die." Next episode: "Oh, you woke up! You were underwater for about 16 hours, no big for any of you -- even though 2/3 of you are regular ol' humans."

And the whole Jackson thing. I'm usually not one to feel like stories are wasted, but man that whole season was just wasted by the way they glossed over it at the beginning of season three.
